Liberia Police apprehend former president’s son over missing millions

Police in Liberia have arrested the son of Liberia’s former president, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, over alleged malpractice in a currency scandal that has gripped the nation.

Investigations were launched last October following the suspected disappearance of newly printed notes worth 100 billion dollars for the Liberian central bank.

The result of the probe showed that the cash had been delivered to central bank’s vaults while about 16.5 million dollars remains unaccounted for.

After the investigation, justice minister, Musa Dean, told newsmen that those responsible would face prosecution.

Hours later, police surrounded the bank and detained deputy central bank governor, Charles Sirleaf and director of banking, Darbor Hagba.
