US states sue Trump over border wall

A coalition of 16 US states has sued president Donald Trump’s administration over his decision to declare an emergency to raise funds for a Mexican border wall.

The lawsuit seeks a preliminary injunction that would stop Trump from acting on his emergency declaration.

It comes days after trump invoked emergency powers to bypass congress and secure funding for the project.

The states led by California say they want to block Trump’s misuse of presidential power.

The democrats opposed funding Trump, barrier and vowed to contest his emergency declaration.
