UK Hails Tinubu’s Economic Reforms, Commends First Lady’s Women Empowerment Drive
The United Kingdom has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic and trade reforms.
British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, gave the commendation during a visit to First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in Abuja.
He said the reforms were tough but necessary and were creating new opportunities in Nigeria’s economy.
The envoy also commended the Renewed Hope Initiative for empowering women in education, health and humanitarian work.
He noted that the reforms were boosting trade ties between Nigeria and the UK.
Montgomery said his government was also watching Nigeria’s constitutional amendment, especially the call for special seats for women in parliament.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu assured her guests that the Renewed Hope Initiative would continue to address the needs of Nigerians.
She said the programme was focused on empowering women in the informal sector.
The First Lady also agreed that women’s numbers in the National Assembly were shrinking and promised to support efforts to improve representation.
