Shettima Reaffirms Nigeria’s Commitment to Peace, Security in Gulf of Guinea

Vice President Kashim Shettima says President Bola Tinubu is firmly committed to peace, security, and stability in the Gulf of Guinea.

He gave the assurance in Abuja while receiving the Executive Secretary of the Gulf of Guinea Commission, Jose Mba Abeso, and his team.

The Vice President said Nigeria remains dedicated to regional cooperation and the African Union’s 2050 Integrated Maritime Strategy.

He stressed that Nigeria, as Africa’s largest economy, has strong interests to protect and will continue to support the Gulf of Guinea Commission.

Mr Abeso called for Nigeria’s backing in reforms to expand the commission’s membership and improve peace and security in the region.

He also urged joint action to address high insurance premiums on goods moving through the Gulf of Guinea and praised Nigeria’s role in creating the Combined Maritime Taskforce.
