Adaba FM GM Raises Alarm Over Social Media Threat to National Security
The General Manager of Adaba FM, Sir Martins Ayoola, has expressed serious concerns over the growing threat social media poses to Nigeria’s national security, describing it as even more dangerous than traditional media.
Speaking during a panel discussion at the Nigerian Army’s second quarter Civil-Military Media Chat held in Akure, Ayoola said the rise in fake news and misinformation online is fueling fear and national instability.
He called for the urgent enactment of laws or regulations to curb the misuse of social media in order to safeguard the country’s interests.
Also speaking at the event, media scholar Dr. Gbenga Abimbola warned that the unchecked freedom on social media could endanger the very survival of the nation. He urged the military to actively support efforts to sanitise the digital space and prevent its abuse from worsening the country’s security challenges.
The media chat is part of the Nigerian Army’s ongoing civil-military engagement efforts aimed at strengthening collaboration with the media to enhance national security.
