Supreme Court Dismisses Ondo Guber Appeals by SDP, APM
The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal filed by the late Bamidele Akingboye, candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2024 Ondo State governorship election.
At the proceedings, counsel to Mr. Akingboye and the SDP informed the court of their decision to withdraw the appeal following the demise of the appellant. Counsel to the respondents did not oppose the application.
A five-member panel of the Apex court, led by Justice Iyang Okoro, consequently dismissed the case.
The court also dismissed a separate appeal filed by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and its governorship candidate after it was voluntarily withdrawn by their counsel.
The decisions bring to a close yet another round of legal challenges to the election of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC), who won the November 2024 poll.
