“Over 170 people died during the 2019 elections” – Observers

Observers have indicated that over 170 people lost their lives in the just concluded elections.

They also made it known that about 115 people sustained injuries by stabbing, shooting and lots more.

The observers revealed that there were about 174 cases of destruction of properties which included burning of houses, cars and election materials.

Executive director of human rights advancement development and advocacy centre, Ameen Ayodele gave the statistics while speaking with newsmen in Lagos.

The human rights director indicated that the percentage of deaths in the 2019 election was 59% while that of 2015 election was 29%.

Ayodele advised the government, stakeholders and citizens not to see elections as war but rather as a peaceful transition.
