Group wants court to declare 1999 constitution null and void

A group of People known as ‘Ilana Omo Oodua’ has approached the federal High Court in Osogbo to declare the 1999 constitution as null and void.

They group also want the Postponement of Ekiti and Osun State Governorship elections slated for June and July this year.

Therefore filing a case challenging the legality of 1999 constitution.

According to counsel to the plaintiff Tolu Babaleye the constitution is no longer serving the collective interest of every Nigerian hence the reason for it to be reviewed.

Babaleye described the constitution as a fraud and should be pronounced as such by the court.

The Deputy Secretary General of the group, Kayode Akinwande said the constitution is one of the reasons for low turnout of voters in recent elections held.

Akinwande noted that necessary steps were not taken before the constitution was put together.
