An elder statesman, Robert Clarke wants tenure elongation for Nigeria’s president Muhammadu Buhari.
Clarke said this would enable him to tackle the lingering insecurity before the 2023 general elections.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) made the call during an interview with newsmen in Lagos.
He argued that the constitution allows the president to continue in office for six months if the atmosphere for elections is not conducive.
Clarke said the belief that the president cannot stay in office for more than eight years is erroneous.
Recall that in May 2021, the senior citizen asked the military to take over the federal government.
Clarke told Buhari to step aside and allow the armed forces to hold sway temporarily and restructure Nigeria.
