Zimbabwe public workers threaten strike over wages

Zimbabwe’s public workers has threatened to embark on strike if government failed to increase their wages to at least over 400 dollars per month for the lowest paid employee.

Leaders of government workers’ unions marched on the ministries of finance and labour in Harare on Tuesday to present their wage demands.

The workers noted that they are not asking for a salary increment, but rather restoration of the value of their earnings, which fell from over 400 dollars to a mere 47 dollars currently for the lowest paid civil servant

Zimbabwe is reported to have been facing shortages of dollars, fuel and medicines under president Emmerson Mnangagwa, who replaced the long-ruling Robert Mugabe after a November 2017 coup.
