US executes Brandon Bernard after 20 years on death row for murder
A death row inmate in the United States has been executed in Indiana after the US Supreme Court rejected last-minute clemency pleas.
40 years old Brandon Bernard, told the family of the couple he killed he was sorry, before dying by lethal injection on Thursday.
He was convicted of murder in 1999 as a teenager.
Bernard is the youngest offender to be executed by the US government in the last 70 years.
Four more executions are planned before the end of Donald Trump’s presidency.
Mr Trump will be the president in US history to have the most executions in more than a century if all five take place which would bring the total of federal executions since July to 13.
