UK PM granted Brexit delay at EU summit

European Union leaders have agreed to grant British prime minister, Theresa May, a new Brexit deadline.

The new deadline is the 31st of October.

This is after French president Emmanuel Macron opposed efforts to give her another year.

The deadline date also averts the prospect of the UK having to leave the EU without a deal on Friday as members of parliament are still deadlocked over a deal.

Ms. May who had wanted a shorter delay said the UK would still aim to leave the EU as soon as possible.

The UK must now hold European elections in May or leave on first of June without a deal.
