UK chief whip says gov’t should have been clearer on Brexit

UK’s parliament chief whip, Julian Smith says the government should have made it clear after 2017 election that it would inevitably have to accept a softer Brexit deal.

Smith whose role is to maintain discipline among members of parliament is also strongly critical of the cabinet’s behaviour.

The unprecedented attack comes as the cabinet is deeply split over whether to move to a softer deal.

members of parliament will further hold votes on Brexit options to resolve the deadlock
