Tussle for governorship ticket tears Ondo APC apart
A chieftain of the APC in Ondo state Bukola Adetula says only direct primary would be acceptable to members of the party in the state.
Adetula said the party has not been healthy since the conduct of 2016 governorship primaries
He said those he described as cabal loyal to the incumbent governor has hijacked the party
He said the only way out is a primary that will afford all party members to participate
He warned that if direct primary is not adopted it would negatively affect the party during the general elections.
In a related development a former deputy governor and APC chieftain in Ondo state Ali Olanusi has stated that there is no going back on direct primary in the party governorship primary scheduled for 22nd of July 2020
Alanusi alleged that there were efforts by a faction of the party to compromise some members of the National Working Committee of the party
He explained that the decision of one Idowu Otetubi to join the Ade Adetimehin led faction has nothing to do with a case in court
In a statement, Olanusi said another court would sit on the matter on 11th of June 2020.
Factional vice chairman of the APC, Henry Olatuja has said the decision of Idowu Otetubi to pitch his tent with the Ade Adetimehin faction did not come as a surprise.
Olatuja said the decision of Otetubi to dump a struggle at a crucial state for whatever amount speaks volume of him.
He spoke while addressing reporters in Akure, the Ondo state capital.
Olatuja said his faction of the APCwill continue with its litigation against adetimehin led executive in court without the fear of intimidation.
Also, chairman, Unity Elders Forum Bayo Falusi described Otetubi’s action as a deliberate move to frustrate the chances of those that intended to partake in the party’s primary election.
