Trump ex-aide lied despite plea deal

A US District Court Judge, Amy Berman has ruled that Donald Trump’s former election campaign chief, Paul Manafort intentionally lied to investigators and a jury in the Russia probe.

Berman said Manafort made multiple false statements to the FBI, a special counsel, Robert Mueller’s office and a grand jury.

The judge said there was evidence that showed Manafort had lied about three different topics including his contacts with a Russian political consultant, Konstantin Kilimnik.

The verdict means that Manafort who had been in detention centre in Virginia since June could now face harsher sentences or have charges against him re-filed.
