Traders count losses as fire guts Sokoto market

The Sokoto fire service has confirmed a fire outbreak that destroyed a part of the old market in Sokoto.

The fire gutted about 20 shops.

The head of operations in Sokoto fire service, Mustapha Abubakar, said on Tuesday, that the inferno started about 11:00 pm on Monday and lasted till 2:00 am on Tuesday.

Abubakar explained that the affected shops included those belonging to cosmetics and cloths sellers.

The operation officer warned members of the public against reporting fire incidents late.

He also warned against blocking the movement of firefighting engines during such incidents.
