SAN asks for constitution amendment to guarantee local government financial autonomy
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chibuike Nwokeukwu has asked for amendment to the constitutional provision that allows states to be in charge of local government finances.
Nwokeukwu told newsmen earlier on Wednesday that such as amendment would put an end to the controversy over the finances of local governments.
On the recent guidelines by the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), the law expert insists that an amendment must first be effected.
The NFIU had barred governors from interfering with statutory allocations accruing to the local governments.
In a reaction, the Nigeria governors forum has kicked against the new financial regulations, describing them as unconstitutional.
