Rice farmers raise alarm over foreign rice smuggling into Nigeria
The national chairman of Rice Millers Association of Nigeria (RIMAN) Peter Dama has raised alarm over the smuggling of foreign rice into Nigeria following the reopening of nation’s borders.
In a press statement, Dama praised the Nigerian government on its efforts to ensure growth in the domestic rice sector, but expressed serious concern on the smuggling of foreign rice into the country.
He appealed to the government to properly equip and compensate all customs officers manning the borders to enable them reduce rice smuggling into the country.

The national chairman of RIMAN also advised the federal government to subsidize rice millers, processors, and farmers to make local rice production more competitive.
