Presidential tribunal dismisses application seeking to stop Buhari’s inauguration

The suit filed by the presidential candidate of the Hope Democratic Party, (HDP) Ambrose Aworu seeking to stop the inauguration of president Buhari has been dismissed.

The presidential election petitions tribunal, in a lead judgement delivered by justice Joseph Ikyechi dismissed the application for lacking merit.

HDP had in its application said it will be unfair and unjust to inaugurate president Buhari for a second term on the ground that the validity of the election that produced him has been challenged at the tribunal.

It also asked for an order stopping the chief justice of Nigeria Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed from inaugurating or administering the oat of office and oat of allegiance on Buhari until all court actions against him are determined.

However, the election petition tribunal had dismissed the application by HDP on Buhari’s inauguration on May 29.
