President Tinubu Mourns Veteran Actor, Olu Jacobs at 84

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed grief over the death of veteran Nollywood actor and film executive, Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, who died at the age of 84.

In a condolence message issued on Wednesday, the President described Olu Jacobs as one of Nigeria’s most distinguished actors, whose career spanned theatre, television and film both in Nigeria and internationally.

Olu Jacobs trained at London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art before beginning his professional career in British television and international film. He later returned to Nigeria, where he became a major figure in the country’s film industry.

President Tinubu praised the late actor for his contribution to the growth and professionalisation of Nigeria’s entertainment industry, noting that his talent, discipline and dedication inspired generations of actors and filmmakers.

The President also highlighted Jacobs’ ability to bring depth and authenticity to his roles, describing him as “a giant of the Nigerian creative industry.”

Tinubu said the actor’s death was a loss to Nigeria, the African film industry and the global performing arts community, adding that his body of work would continue to inspire future generations.

The President extended his condolences to Jacobs’ wife, veteran actress Chief Joke Silva, their children, family members, colleagues and the wider creative community, while praying for the repose of his soul.
