Police equip 480 special constables to combat crime in Osun
As part of initiatives to curb insecurity in Osun state 480 special constables drawn from all local government areas in the state are resuming duty to complement police efforts in fighting crimes and criminality
The Special Constabulary is an offshoot of Community Policing scheme for safe communities, and they are expected to work under the supervision of a divisional police officer in their localities
According to Commissioner of police in the state Olawale Olokode the special constables are volunteers who are expected to work with regular police by providing useful information for proactiveness in nipping crime in the bud.
CP Olokode said, following growing concern on security, the special officers, comprising 44 females and 436 males have been equipped with series of training to support efforts of the regular police especially at the grassroot level
The C.P revealed that the special officers took part and successfully completed a special training in lbadan, Oyo state before returning to Osun state.
Also speaking, the Osun state governor Gboyega Oyetola urged the volunteers to elicit positive difference by discharging their assigned roles with integrity and loyalty.
Governor Oyetola who was represented by secretary to the state government Wole Oyebamiji said his government will continue to prioritize support to the police and other sister security agencies, as well as collaborating with other neighbouring states to reduce crime rate to the barest minimum.
The constables would be deployed to all the local government areas in the state.
