Poland’s ruling party declares victory in national elections
Poland’s governing law and justice party has claimed victory in Sunday’s general election.
Partial results gave the conservative nationalist party more than 40% of the vote, enough to increase its majority in the lower house of parliament.
Main rival the centrist civic coalition had about a quarter of the vote.
The party has been at loggerheads with the EU over reforms to Poland’s judiciary and has also been criticized over its position on gay rights.
