Osun Declares War on Drug Abuse

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has urged the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, to intensify its operations across borders and communities to curb the rising menace of drug abuse among Nigerian youths.

Governor Adeleke made the appeal during the official launch of the Osun Government’s War Against Drug Abuse campaign held in Osogbo, the state capital.

The Governor described drug abuse as a serious global challenge, expressing concern that many Nigerian youths are now deeply involved in the use of illicit substances.

He said the state government will henceforth wage a sustained war against drug abuse, warning that no community will be left out of the campaign.

Also speaking the NDLEA Zonal Commander for Oyo and Osun States, Tunde John, said the agency’s focus is on prevention rather than punishment.

He explained that NDLEA is adopting new strategies that emphasize education, awareness, and early intervention to reduce the number of young people falling into drug addiction.

The Osun State Commissioner for Federal Affairs, Adenike Adeleke, noted that the ongoing sensitization drive will cover all three senatorial districts, nine federal constituencies, one hundred and ten schools, and nearly six thousand students across the state.
