Ondo tribunal reserves Judgment of PDP’S suit against Akeredolu

The Ondo state governorship election petitions tribunal has reserved judgement in the petition filed by the PDP and Eyitayo Jegede against the victory of governor Rotimi Akeredolu at the October 10 governorship election.

The tribunal chairman, Justice Umar Abubakar said the judgement would be delivered in April.

He explained that the date would be communicated to parties involved.

This followed the adoption of written addresses by counsels to the petitioners and the defendants.

Counsel to the petitioners, Onyechi Ikpeazu prayed the tribunal to uphold its petitions to protect the sanctity of the Nigerian constitution.

Ikpeazu said the sponsorship of Akeredolu and Aiyedatiwa is defective and void as it contravenes the provision of the constitution.

He argued that the petition is not a pre-election matter and that the tribunal has jurisdiction to hear the petition.

While APC counsel, Lateef Fagbemi said the grouse of the petitioners is an internal affair of the party.

Akin Olujimi argued that the petition was not properly constituted.

They both argued that the tribunal lacks the power to hear the matter and it should dismiss the petition.

One of the counsels to the petitioners, Ifedayo Adedipe expressed optimism that the tribunal will uphold their petition.

Defence lawyers, Lateef Fagbemi and Akin Olujimi expressed confidence in their defence.
