Ondo lawmakers against deputy speaker’s impeachment

Nine of the 26-member of the Ondo State House of Assembly have dissociated themselves from the impeachment of the deputy speaker, Iroju Ogundeji.

The lawmakers are Iroju Ogundeji, Jamiu Maito, Rasheed Elegbeleye, Tomide Akinribido, Samuel Edamisan, Favour Tomomewo, Festus Akingbaso, Adewale Williams and Torhukerhijo success.

A letter dated 24 November, addressed to the Speaker of the House, David Oleyelogun, bore the signatures of the nine members cutting across the three senatorial districts of the state.

On Tuesday, 20 lawmakers reportedly signed Iroju’s impeachment notice.

In an interview with Adaba fm, One of the lawmakers, Adewale Williams representing Ondo-West constituency II, said they were not aware of any allegation against the former deputy speaker.

He described the purported impeachment of Iroju as null and void, insisting that the leadership of the assembly do not have the required number of lawmakers to impeach him.
