NYSC gives update on reopening of orientation camps

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) says orientation camps across the country would open when the federal government gives the scheme the ‘green light’.

The Director-General of the scheme, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, said this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) boss, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu in Abuja on Tuesday.

The NYSC boss said that the scheme suspended the 2020 Batch ‘A’ Stream One Orientation Course just one week into the exercise in order to curtail the spread of COVID-19 to any of the Orientation camps.

Ibrahim noted that the suspended 2020 Batch ‘A’ Stream One Orientation Course would be completed when the Presidential Task Force (PTF) gives the Scheme the order to reopen camps.

He also briefed the NCDC boss on COVID-19 interventions made by Corps Members all over the country, including sensitization; production and distribution of face masks, liquid soaps, hand sanitizers, automated disinfection chambers; as well as automated and foot- operated liquid soap, hand sanitizer and water dispenser.

In his response, lhekweazu commended NYSC for its support to the fight against the coronavirus through Corps Member’s activities especially the fabrication of handwashing machines and the production of disinfectants amongst other interventions.
