NURTW: Controversies trail Idajo’s alleged planned imposition

Controversies continue to trail the allegation that governor Rotimi Akeredolu plans to impose Jacob Adebo known as Idajo to continue his leadership of the NURTW in Ondo state.

The union had written Akeredolu through their lawyer to request that the union be allowed to elect a new executive.

A visit to some motorparks in Akure by Adaba FM’s Ifeanyichukwu Abe reveals that there are divergent opinions on the matter.

In March 2021, the Ondo State Government banned the activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers.

The order was not unconnected with the leadership crisis of the union and the increase in transport fares across the state.

The Akeredolu administration also directed the leadership of both NURTW and RTEAN to vacate motorparks across the 18 local government areas of the state and to stop collecting money from taxi drivers and other motorists.

10 months into the ban, a hornest seems to have been stirred as members of the union have begun to grumble over the purported plan to impose the deposed chairman, Jacob Adebo.

The special adviser to Governor Akeredolu on Transport, Mr Tobi Ogunleye, however cautions the union not to drag the good reputation of the Akeredolu administration in the mud with its internal rancour.
