NASS facilitates suspension of new electricity tarrif regime
The leadership of the National Assembly has convinced electricity Distribution Companies (Discos) in the country to defer the proposed hike in tariffs scheduled to take effect from July the 1st, 2020.
A statement by the special adviser to the senate president on media, Ola Awoniyi reveals that the lawmakers met with the chief executives of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the discos to reach a common ground.
The National Assembly leaders stressed that the timing of the planned hike was wrong.
On their part, the discos admit that they were not well prepared for the planned hike in tariffs, despite the pressing need for it.
