Lecturers Protest Upgrade Of Osun College Of Education To Varsity

The Academic Staff Union of College of Education Ilesha Osun state has embarked on a protest over composition of implementation committee set up by the state government for the proposed university of Ilesha.

The protesting lecturers march round the school premises carrying placards with various inscriptions and chanting solidarity song to drive home their demands

It would be recalled that earlier this year, the governor of Osun state Gboyega Oyetola had announced the conversion of Osun state college of education Ilesha to a full fledged university.

While speaking the National President of the College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) Smart Odunayo who led the protest hinted that the state government did not involve the union and other relevant stakeholders while setting up the committee hence the reason for their protest.

Odunayo also said the protest is to counter the proposed Public-private partnership arrangement included in the newly established University of Ilesa.

Also speaking the chairman of the college of Education Academic Staff Union of the institution William Alabi said although the state government is entitled to change the status of the said college of education but all stakeholders must be given due consideration before taking off.

They therefore vowed to continue the protest until the state government accede to their demands.
