Lassa fever:Ondo Confirms 36 Cases, 9 Deaths
No fewer than 9 people have died from the outbreak of Lassa fever in Ondo State.
The deceased were part of the 102 suspected cases of the disease reported since the year began in 8 local government areas of the state.
Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu made the disclosure today while addressing journalists in Owo.
The Governor explained that 36 out of the 79 cases with laboratory results have been confirmed and are currently being managed at the Federal Medical Centre in Owo.
To contain the spread of the disease , Akeredolu wants the people of the state to report any case of sickness and death In their areas to the nearest hospital.
He revealed that apart from the reactivation of the Emergency preparedness and Response team, active surveillance is ongoing across all the 18 Local Government Areas of the state.
The governor advised every citizen to stay away from spreading foods in the open to avoid contamination and also avoid bush burning.
