Lagos govt warns hospitals against rejecting gunshot victims

Lagos state government has asked all health care providers operating in the state to stop the trend of rejecting gunshot victims on the excuse of requiring a police report.

The state commissioner of health, professor Akin Abayomi also appealed to the health care providers to stop rejecting other trauma patients because of lack of evidence of funds before commencing treatment.

He urged hospitals, health centres and clinics to offer immediate and comprehensive care to victims in line with the federal compulsory treatment and care for victims of gunshot act, 2017.

The commissioner explained that health care providers hold it a duty to first save lives by offering immediate attention to any patient requiring urgent and lifesaving supportive care before any other considerations.
