Kenya airport strike strands thousands of passengers
Thousand of passengers are stranded at the four main airports in Kenya after a strike by workers forced the disruption of local and international flights.
The strike began today resulting in the withdrawal of fire engines from the runway.
The striking workers are opposed to a plan by the government hand over the management of airports from Kenya airports authority to Kenya airway.
The workers say, the proposed take-over would put their jobs at risk.
Meanwhile, police have used tear-gas in an attempt to disperse striking workers at the main international in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi.
The secretary-general of Kenya aviation workers union secretary-general, Moss Ndiema, has been arrested.
The government has condemned the strike as illegal and says replacement workers would be brought in to normalize the situation.
