Journalist, one other shot during protest in Osun state
Men of the Osun state police command has shot a journalist Toba Adedeji and an unidentified teenager during a protest by some youths in Osogbo, the Osun state capital.
The youths were protesting after burying a friend known as Abiola Afolabi, whom was unjustly killed by the police somewhere in Osogbo, few months ago
The protesters gathered at Olaiya flyover for the protest and but were dispersed shortly by police officers before the two victims, the nations correspondent, Toba Adedeji and a teenager were incidentally shot.
The journalists Toba Adedeji was rushed to the state’s University teaching hospital for urgent attention while the whereabout of the teenager is yet unknown
While Speaking to newsmen, eye witnesses Shina Abubakar and Henry Ojo said the protest was a peaceful one before the police officers dispersed the protesters in what they described as indiscipline and untrained manner.
Also speaking the chairman, Osun state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Wasiu Ajadosu, who lamented officers brutality with impunity in the state, charged the Inspector General of Police to redeploy the state commissioner of police Wale Olokode within 7 days.
As at the time of filing this report, police public relations officer, Yemisi Opalola was not available to react on the incident as all efforts to reach her proved abortive.
