In Japan, tropical storm kills one person

At least one person has died and 49 injured after a tropical storm barrelled through parts of Japan.

Japan’s meteorological agency said storm Krosa made landfall near Hiroshima in southern Japan and is now moving north.

More than 400,000 people were advised to evacuate.

Around 800 flights and train services have been cancelled, sabotaging travel during the summer holiday season.

Krosa has now been downgraded to a tropical storm.

It was previously classified as a severe tropical storm, one notch below the typhoon category.

Earlier footage showed heavy winds uprooting trees, toppling lorries and spinning pods on a ferris wheel.

High waves were seen smashing into a breakwater, engulfing a lighthouse, while rivers broke their banks and flooded roads.
