Israeli parliament votes to hold new election in September

Israeli lawmakers have voted to dissolve parliament after prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu failed to form a coalition government before a midnight deadline.

The lawmakers dissolution today now pave the way for a new election.

Information has it that Netanyahu preferred a new ballot set for September 17, to the alternative under which Israeli president Reuven Rivlin could have asked another politician to try and form a ruling coalition.

Prime Minister Netanyahu said he is optimistic that his right-wing party will win after the parliament voted for a fresh election for his failure to assemble his fifth assemble.
