House of Reps Moves to Remove Police Retirees from Contributory Pension Scheme

The House of Representatives is considering removing police retirees from the Contributory Pension Scheme.

The move follows a call by a member from Kaduna State, Mohammed Hussain, during plenary on Wednesday.

He said many retired police officers are suffering, despite serving the country under tough and dangerous conditions.

Jallo explained that the House Committees on Pensions and Police Affairs are working on laws to allow police retirees leave the scheme, adding that the plan is to give them the same pension benefits as other security agencies.

This comes after recent protests by retired police officers in Abuja during which some of them marched to the National Assembly to demand better pension treatment.

The House says the welfare of security personnel remains a top priority for the 10th National Assembly.
