Hong Kong protests: China says protesters ‘trample rule of law’
China has accused protesters of serious illegal actions that trample on the rule of law.
A group of activists occupied the legislative council building for several hours and vandalized Hong Kong’s parliament.
Beijing urged the city to investigate criminal responsibility of violent offenders.
The unrest followed weeks of protest in the city over a controversial extradition law.
Critics have said the law could be used to send political dissidents from semi-autonomous Hong Kong to mainland China.
Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam has also condemned the extreme use of violence by the protesters.
