Heavy Rainfall Breaches Ilesa Prison Wall, Inmates Escape
Seven inmates have escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesa, Osun State, following damage to the prison’s perimeter wall caused by heavy rainfall.
The spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), confirmed the incident in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja.
According to Umar, the breach in the prison’s security infrastructure occurred at approximately 2:00am on Tuesday, giving the inmates the opportunity to escape.
Umar, says the NCoS’ controller general, Sylvester Nwakuche, has ordered an immediate investigation into the incident.
He says the service is collaborating with other security agencies and community leaders to recapture the fleeing inmates.
Abubakar Umar implores members of the public to provide any credible information that could help the NCoS in its effort to recapture the escaped inmates.
