Group kicks against extension of NIS Boss tenure
Coalition of Civil Society Organisations in Osun state has called for the investigation and prosecution of the comptroller general of Nigeria Immigration Service, Idris Jere.
The spokesperson of the group Femi Lawson who made the call in a press conference held in Osogbo noted that the CG had acted for seven months when he ought to have retired, yet his tenure was extended by one year by president Muhammadu Buhari in 2022.
Lawson said with the one year extension, the CG’s tenure expires by 24th of April , 2023, saying further extension will amount to illegality and lack of Accountability in the civil service and will dampen the spirit of civil servants.
With a proof of evidence, the coalition group berated a letter issued from the office of the CG to effect an official trip for him from 13th April to the 25th of April when his tenure would have been duly and officially expired.
The group said if the needful is not done, it shall be constrained to approach a Court of Law, to seek interpretations on whether the Executive power of the CG is self renewable without the consent of the president
Moreso, the coalition group alleged the CG of series of official corruption, saying that it has petitioned the ICPC and EFCC to probe the allegations.
They therefore, called on president Muhammed Buhari not to renew the tenure of the acting CG as he has not achieved anything remarkable since he assumed the position.
