Gov. Akeredolu advocates scrapping of Senate

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu has called for reduction in the cost of governance in other for Nigeria to be able to save more money.

To achieve this, Akeredolu suggested scrapping of the senate and reducing the number of ministries, departments and agencies of government.

Akeredolu spoke at the Southwest Zonal Public Hearing of the House of Representatives Special Committee on Constitution Review held in Akure.

He also called for state police, resource control, judicial reforms, especially decentralising the supreme court.Akeredolu was represented by his deputy, lucky Ayedatiwa.

The governor explained that constitution review was an important assignment which must be undertaken with all seriousness.

The Chairman, House of representatives special committee on construction Review, Ahmed Idris Wase said the committee will consider the views of the people.

He said the constitution was made for the people and could not be done without adequate input from them.Wase was represented by the house deputy leader, mr Peter Akpatason.

Issues such as giving roles to traditional rulers, local government and judiciary autonomy, gender equality, state police were raised.
