Ghana president Akufo-Addo promises economic boost after election victory

Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo has won a second four-year term in office.

The election commission said the announcement follows a tightly contested vote that was tainted by violence in which five people died.

He won by a slim margin securing 51.59 percent of the total votes cast, while opposition leader former president John Mahama secured 47.36 percent.

In his victory speech, president Nana Akufo-Addo called for unity and promised to improve living standards.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s main opposition party has rejected the election results declared by the electoral commission citing alleged irregularities.

Officials of the national democratic congress said they would make known their next course of action soon.
