Fuel Subsidy: Group harps on need to review minimum wage
The Coalition of Civil Societies in Osun state has harped on the need for President of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to review the Nation’s minimum wage to cushion effect of fuel subsidy removal.
Commending brave removal of the fuel subsidy by president Tinubu, the group noted that the subsidy has, over the years, been exploited by corrupt public office holders to embezzle the Nation’s Commonwealth
The executive director of the group prof Wasiu Oyedokun stated this while addressing journalists during its June edition of state-of-the-state address held in Osogbo, the state capital,
Prof. Wasiu Oyedokun- lamented that fuel subsidy removal has made prices of commodities and transportation fares skyrocket in Osun state likewise other states in the nation.
He said with upward review of the minimum wage and implementation of other social security initiatives, the effects of the subsidy removal will be alleviated.
Also speaking a members of the group Wole Oladapo equally called for speedy implementation of social security policies and the newly passed student loans scheme to ease economic burden on Nigerians and to absorb the attendant pressure of the fuel subsidy removal.
Speaking on governance in Osun state Oladapo charged governor Ademola Adeleke to revive moribund Omoluabi school buses at the state secretariat in order to ease the cost of transportation occasioned by the fuel subsidy removal
