FRSC records over 100 road traffic cases, 41 deaths in Ekiti

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Zonal Commander, Assistant Corp Marshal, Uche Omeje Says Ekiti State has recorded a total of 102 road traffic cases in the last nine months, with 41 losing their lives.

Omeje made the disclosure during the official flag-off ceremony of
“Ember Month” Safety Campaign in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

Omeje, who attributed the incessant accidents on Nigeria roads to recklessness and over speeding on the parts of motorists, said the bad roads and general insecurity pummeling the nation were also contributing to increasing carnages on the roads.

The State Deputy Governor, Bisi Egbeyemi who spoke on behalf of the State Governor, Kayode Fayemi called on drivers to always be mindful of their families back home as well as their passengers, while urging them to shun drunk driving.

Egbeyemi added that the ‘Ember’ months have become synonymous with unwholesome practices by drivers resulting in untold and preventable fatalities on the roads.

He also urged them to obey traffic rules and shun any act capable of endangering lives on the road.

The “Ember Month” flag-off ceremony was well attended by stakeholders and drivers in the transport industry in the state.
