Former labour leader speaks against TUC 21day planned industrial action in Ekiti
A former Chairman of the Trade Union Congress in Ekiti State, Kolawole Olaiya has called on the leadership of the Union to thread softly and seek an amicable solution to the payment of backlog salaries and other emoluments due the workforce rather than the planned industrial action.
Kolawole who was reacting to a 21-day ultimatum given to Ekiti State Government to pay outstanding allowances, arrears, deductions, and leave bonuses to its members in Ado-Ekiti, described the threat as inappropriate and uncalled for.
He noted that the immediate past administration of Ayo Fayose owed workers several months of salaries and pensions which he said the workers failed to retrieve from him before he left.
He added that workers are getting their salaries as at when due under the present administration in the State.
The former labour leader who is currently a Special Assistant to the State Governor on Labour matter further said
that the present administration in the state has done well at ensuring that gratuity and arrears inherited from the past administration are paid, as he said that the government has spent over three billion naira to defray gratuities.
Olaiya called on the labour leaders in the state to commend the present administration in the areas of prompt payment if workers salaries and what he described as massive infrastructure not minding the state limited resources.
