“FG is satisfied with the role played by security agencies during EndSARS protests” – Lai Mohammed
The federal government has taken a swipe at Cable News Network, CNN, over its recent report in which it analysed the real time event of the Lekki shooting.
In a briefing on Thursday morning, the minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, attacked CNN’s viral report, which appeared to show live bullets being fired at peaceful protesters.
He said “CNN goofed in its inconsistent that the soldiers who are deployed to Lekki toll gate indeed shot at protesters killing some of them. CNN relied heavily on unverified or possible doctored videos as well as information source from questionable sources to reach its conclusion.
This should earn CNN a serious sanction for irresponsible reporting”.
Speaking on national television, Lai Mohammed said the federal government is completely satisfied with the handling of the situation by security personnel.
He added that “FG is satisfied with the role played by the security agencies especially military and police all through the EndSARS crisis”.
He also defended the sanctions imposed on some media houses in the wake of the protests.
“The sanctions imposed on some broadcast media organisation by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) are justified in view of the unprofessional act of the organisation which were in-cleared with of the broadcasting commission as stated by the commission. Its also imperative for the traditional media to authenticate information on the social media before pushing such to the public”.
Meanwhile, the federal government on Thursday said it has no plan to shut down the internet or social media.
It said it would only work with stakeholders to regulate social media.
Mohammed observed that social media was used wrongly to cause mayhem in the aftermath of the #EndSARS protest.
