Female Lawyers Urge Government to Fight Poverty
Government at all levels must intensify efforts at fighting poverty, in order to make life worth living for the vulnerable and the downtrodden children in the society.
Chairperson, Federation of International women Lawyers FIDA in Ekiti State, Adefunke Anoma said this during activities organized by women Lawyers in Ekiti state to celebrate christmas with children at Mosadoluwa child care centre in Ado Ekiti.
Anoma in a chat with newsmen pointed out that
extending the hands of fellowship of the organization to children’s home in the state was borne out of the passion the organization have to make the children feel among, and have sense of belonging that they are part of the society.
She urged governments to make education free for vulnerable children across the country.
“We decided to celebrate with these children because they too are important. They are as important as children in any family. We ‘re trying to convey a message to them that their future is bright and they are future leaders. I want to inspire them that the circumstances of their birth should not be a depression to them or make them look less important,” she said.
On her part the chairman planning committee of the programme, Adebola Richard-Adeniyi said the situation of the children was pathetic which he said propelled women lawyers in the state to salvage the situation.
She further lamented the indiscriminate dumping of children on the streets, calling for urgent actions to tackle the menace.
In a remark the founder of the child centre,Mojisola Ogunleye lauded female lawyers for the gesture noting that such would go a long way to help the centre.
Items distributed by female lawyers at the event include, food stuffs, beverages, and educational materials.
