Ekiti state pensioners decry life pension move for national and state assemblies legislators

Pensioners in Ekiti state have decried the move by the national assembly to grant life pension to past national and state assemblies legislators.

The pensioners at a press conference in Ado Ekiti described the proposal as an abuse of legislative privileges and self serving.

Chairman Nigeria Union of Pensioners in the state Ayo Kumapayi said legislators are only entitled to severance allowances.

Kumapayi lauded state governor Kayode Fayemi for giving priority to pensioners’ welfare.

He also urged the state government to include pensioners’ council in the negotiation on the new minimum wage.

Kumapayi further appealed to the state government to prioritize the monthly payment of gratitudes to local government pensioners with equivalent sum of a hundred million Naira per/month.
