Ekiti govt to upgrade slum area for free trading

The Ekiti state government has again reiterated that it won’t embark on any structural demolition without the payment of compensation to claimants.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji, speaking at the presentation of checks to owners of properties acquired at the Igbehin/Atikankan area of Ado Ekiti for the construction of the Central Business District CBD.

He said that the environment, which has been one of the most notorious and deadliest areas in the state capital, would be upgraded to a befitting business area that will bring access to free trading.

The Governor, represented by his Deputy Chief Monisade Afuye at the event, expressed that upgrading the slump area to a business district would reduce the rate of criminal activities in the state capital and also increase the state’s internally generated revenue.

The governor urged residents of the area to cooperate with the contractors that would be handling the project, expressing his administration’s commitment to the completion of all ongoing infrastructural projects in the state.

Earlier, the Head of Service, Mr. Sunday Komolafe, commended the governor for placing a premium on the payment of compensation to the owners of properties affected by various construction projects in Ekiti.

He said that the commendable effort of the governor to give the state a new facelift was visible.

Also, the Special Adviser to the Governor on State Capital Development, Mr. Tade Aluko, said that the state government wants to place a new market structure in the area so as to end the incessant crimes that have been committed in the area.

It would be recalled that governor Oyebanji, earlier in the year flagged off the payment of compensation to those affected by the ongoing construction of the Ekiti Ring Road Phase 1 and the construction of the second flyover bridge in Ado Ekiti.
