Ekiti declares state of emergency over hike in goods and services
The Ekiti state government has declared a State of Emergency on prices of Goods and services which it states has placed burden on residents of the state.
Also, Government will soon constitute a committee to fashion out modalities for the regulation and control of the Price of goods and services in the state .
Governor Kayode Fayemi made these known in Ado Ekiti at a meeting with leaders of drivers unions, tricycle and motorcycle associations as well as tipper Associations held at lady Jibowu hall Government house ground, Ado Ekiti.
The Governor noted that it was worrisome that transport fare and prices of goods and services in Ekiti were high compared to that of other southwest states hence for government intervention.
The Governor through the Chief of Staff, Biodun Omoleye told the gathering that government could no longer fold its arms and allowed such to linger on in the interest of the people.
He appealed to the drivers unions to reduce the transport fare while government would assist them financially as part of its socio-responsibility to interest groups in the state.
Representatives of drivers unions in their separate remarks mentioned high rate of development levy, renewal of Vehicles Particulars, fuel price hike, as some factors responsible for hike in transport fare.
They also blamed the situation on the porous economy situation of the country and urged the federal government to put in place necessary policies that would ameliorate the sufferings of the common man in the state.
