Edo, Ondo: Violence Will Stop Results Declaration, INEC Warns

The Independent National Electoral Commission has warned political parties against violence ahead of the Edo and Ondo states governorship elections.

The commission has insisted that it will not declare results where elections are disrupted.

The chairman of the commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu spoke at a virtual event on democracy and elections in West Africa, organised by the centre for strategic and international studies, Washington DC.

Yakubu maintained that there would be no point declaring results in a situation where the electoral process is marred by violence.

He noted that the commission will not endorse fraud or function outside the minimum standards set for the conduct of credible elections anywhere in the world.

Yakubu reiterated the commission’s commitment to ensuring free, fair and credible elections in Nigeria.
